Professor Gaji Fatima Dantata was born on September 28, 1957 to the family of Alhaji Alhassan Dantata in Kano State. After completing her secondary education in 1974, she got married and was blessed with five children.

Professor Gaji Fatima Dantata obtained an Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) Certificate with Grade B in 1988. She obtained her Master's Degree in Special Education from Bayero University, Kano in 1994.

In 1995, she began her journey as a lecturer in the Faculty of Education, Bayero University, Kano. She obtained her Ph.D in 2000 and gained a Senior African Research Scholars Programme Fellowship (Fulbright, USA) in 2003.

Professor Dantata has served as: Member, National Council for Exceptional Children; Member, Rehabilitation International; Honourable Commissioner, Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs & Social Development; and Chairperson, Agency for Mass Education in Kano (2009).

Her appointment as a Member of the Federal Judicial Service Commission was approved on the 7th of November 2023 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
