Commission Appoints New Judges to Federal High Court and National Industrial Court

Wed, 22 Oct 2025

The Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) has completed the processes leading to the appointment of new judicial officers to fill existing vacancies in the Federal High Court of Nigeria and the National Industrial Court of Nigeria.

Following a rigorous screening, shortlisting, and advisory process conducted in accordance with its constitutional mandate under Paragraph 13, Part I of the Third Schedule to the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Commission forwarded its recommendations to the National Judicial Council (NJC) for onward processing and presidential appointment.

The Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Justice Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, GCON, Chief Justice of Nigeria, presided over the Commission sitting at which the recommendations were ratified. She stressed the importance of identifying candidates of the highest intellectual calibre, integrity, and judicial temperament to strengthen the Federal Judiciary.

The appointments are expected to significantly reduce the backlog of cases in the affected courts and improve access to justice for Nigerians. The names of the recommended candidates will be published upon completion of all constitutional requirements and presidential assent.

Members of the public and the legal community are encouraged to submit any credible concerns regarding any of the screened candidates to the Commission within the stipulated period.
