Michael Kaase Aondoakaa serves his country as the Honorary Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Federal Republic of Nigeria. In addition, he was a Principal Partner for M. K. AONDOAKAA & CO. from 1989 – 2007; Junior Partner for J. TINE TUR & CO. prior to that; and he started his professional career as Company Secretary for MEIKOS NIG. LTD. LAGOS.
Aondoakaa was born in 1962 and has built a stellar career in a short amount of time. He attended Mt. St, Gabriel’s Secondary School, Makurdi, Benue State-Nigeria; Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos- Nigeria; after University of Maiduguri, Maiduguri, Nigeria. Throughout his scholarly pursuits, Aondoakaa earned his West African School Certificate (WASC), BL and LLB (Honours).
Over the years Aondoakaa has been proud to achieve many prestigious affiliations. A few of the highlights include being a Member of several important committees including the Presidential Committee on Sales of Aluminium and Smelting Company of Nigeria to Rusal Aluminium of Russian and the Presidential Committee on Hydrocarbon Bitumen and Heavy Oil Exploitation; and serving as Chairman for the Ministerial Committee on the Review of the Draft Comments on the African Peer Review (APR) Country Review Report on Nigeria as well as for the Reform of Petroleum Trust Development Fund.
Aondoakaa has also contributed to the development of several important legal matters including Grace Jack Vs. University of Agriculture Makurdi; Mbanengen Shande vs. The State; and DSP Godspower Nwakwoala & 1 Or vs. The State. He played a key role in overseeing the review of Investment Laws in Nigeria; held an important position in developing the legal framework for public private partnership and delivery of infrastructure in Nigeria; has been a major part of implementing Nigeria’s membership obligation in furtherance of her membership of the United Nations Human Right Council; and he has helped in the efforts to ensure the Nigerian Government upholds it International Treaty obligations.
Throughout his years serving the country, Aondoakaa has attended numerous legal conferences, been awarded “Man of the Year 2007” by the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi; and he won the African Meritorious Service Award in 2008, the Nelson Mandela Gold Award for Leadership in 2008 and a Leadership Award from Clear Corporation UK in 2009 for his contributions to Good Governance: the Rule of Law and Development of Democracy in Nigeria.
On top of all this Aondoakaa was elected as a member of the Governing Council of United Nations International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT), has served as the Keynote Speaker for several illustrious conferences and has become an extremely proficient legal practitioner. Aondoakaa is both a husband and a proud father, and in his free time he enjoys Philanthropy, Reading, Travelling, Current Affairs, Music and Dancing. The respect and dignity he brings to the FJSC ensures he will continue to serve his country in a position of great honour.
