Fatima Sa’ad Abubakar

Fatima Sa’ad Abubakar was born on December 31st, 1953 in Gombi, Gombi Local Government, Adamawa State. She attended Junior Primary School from 1959 – 1965 and then went to St. Louis College, Bompai, Kano and Ahmadu Bello University. After that she attended the Institute of Administration [KONGO] ABU Zaria and later the University of Maiduguri, where she graduated in 1996.

Fatima earned her West African School Certificate (WASC), B.A. (Hon.), Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration (PGDA) and Masters in Public Administration (MPA) during her scholastic endeavors. She started her service career in 1975 as a Secondary School Teacher at Cross-River State during her NYSC. Next she became an Information Officer I for the Gongola State Civil Service and then later she served as Assistant Registrar for the Information and Publications Department at the University of Maiduguri.

By 1983 she had become the Principal Information Officer and after that the Chief Information Officer for Gongola State Civil Service. During this time she was also the Founding Editor of the Weekly Scope publication and the Permanent Secretary for the Internal Affairs & Special Services Division of Gongola State. In 1999 she joined as member the Federal Judicial Service Commission and later still she became the Ambassador to the Republic of Bostwana for a brief time.

Aside from all of these glorious accomplishments, Fatima also served as Managing Director of Tima Travel Agency, SUFF Nig. Ltd, U & F Households and TIMA Properties Nig. Ltd.  In addition, she has held executive positions in a vast array of reputable organisations. She was the Secretary for the National Advisory Committee on Nigeria Citizenship and the Committee on War Against Indiscipline ,Gongola State; Chairperson for a variety of important committees; and President of the Tourism Practitioner Association of Nigeria. Also member Presidential Panel of investigation into the recent Jos Crisis .

Fatima has also published important political and educational papers, won various awards including the Merit Award by Media Women, Yola; Award for the promotion of Education in Adamawa State; and Merit Award for Outstanding Performance in Politics, and participated in a large number of activities, organizations and committees that benefited local communities and the country as a whole.

The services Fatima has provided are too numerous and we are eternally grateful for the immense body of work she has produced. At the FJSC we honour her diligence and pursuit of excellence in her work and personal life.
